Posted -: 17:10:29Short answer yes, a ukulele-banjo is identical tuning to a concert or soprano ukulele. However it is a lot louder, which means it may be played rather differently. The neck tends to be a bit wider allowing individual notes to be popped out.The neck may be a trifle longer allowing it to be tuned with a low-D or as a baritone. The constant pinging of the re-entrant d-string can be OTT.Or it can be re-strung as a 15 fret tango-banjo (mandolin tuning GDAae), a short tenor-banjo.

Mine is tuned this way, with a combination of soprano/concert and baritone Nylgut ukulele strings and a guitar A(?) string (it does not sound right strung with metal). This gives it an extended range, the short neck makes it easy to span 7 or more frets. It does tend to yelp.Edited by - jefrs on 17:12:26. Like the guitar, it can be used to play tunes and complicated arrangements by players who take the time to work on it. It can be finger-picked, flat picked or strummed with the fingers. The same is true for the banjo uke. Here's a clip of one way a banjo uke might be played. Here's a clip of one way of playing a regular uke:One more:So you see it can be much more than this:Edited by - Jim Yates on 09:16:13.

It makes a fun little bluegrass banjo, and really barks. It's weight and volume are excellent for those festivals where you end up walking long distances between jams.Best,- Don HergertSweet Tidings Gospel Jam'If you must use your banjo as a snow shovel, do so:only don't wonder if it sounds dull afterwards.' He also uses thumb strum, followed by solos that relied heavily on triple, shake, and split strokes, and the occasional fan:I try to play like Formby, but also use a little bit of Chris' technique, and right now, I'm trying to do some Dick Dale surf tunes, which work surprisingly well. It's bigger than a standard banjolele.(By the way, I have a mid-1920s banjo uke for sale at the classifieds section, if anyone wants to get into that style of playing.)A friend of mine owns that particular uke of Tessie's. It may look bigger, but its a UB5, a standard soprano scale ukulele banjo. BTW, do you still have those banjo ukes for sale? I'm always looking for more.:)Edited by - Jrbianchi on 12:57:50. My banjolele (Maybelle) has a 35cm scale length. Both my no name soprano uke and my Banjo-ette banjolele have 33cm scale lengths. All of these have concert strings at present, since that was all the music store had. The banjoleles seem to require 7 or 8 cm more string length than the ukes with equivalent scales.

I have not been able to find strings made specifically for the banjolele.
